Woodard Schools Fake News

Derby Telegraph Fact-Checked

In the popular era of Fake news and the popular phrase is one we all recognise we should be aware of statements made by Woodard Schools and we are prepared to challenge each one.
When we think of the word Fake news we think of one man and that is Donald Trump but now we have a new contender for fake news and that will be Woodard who have all PR managed by Liquid an external company paid very handsomely to manage these press responses.

Yesterday the Derby Telegraph published an article highlighting the severe problems our children face as they move into year ten and year twelve.

We applaud the Derby Telegraph for highlighting the issues but strongly challenge the Woodard response and openly call this VERY FAKE NEWS.
Woodard responded to the claims as follows:

A spokesman for Woodard Group, which runs the school, said: “The governing body understands the impact a closure has on key exam years.
“There is never a good time to close a school and they are sorry for the disruption caused. However, this is a planned rather than sudden closure, allowing alternative education to be sought.
“By giving as much notice as possible and advising parents to look at alternative provision, we hope that the impact of the move has been minimised.
“Woodard Schools within the area have also reached out to parents and Abbots Bromley have liaised with schools who have approached them to provide as much information on the curriculum they have followed as possible.”
The spokesman said parents were told of the closure in mid-March, meetings with them were held within days, governors spent “several hours” taking questions from parents and a parent consultation group had been set up.

So now Woodard has placed the above on record let’s break down the statement into smaller pieces and respond:

“There is never a good time to close a school and they are sorry for the disruption caused. However, this is a planned rather than sudden closure, allowing alternative education to be sought.
The governing body made the decision to close the school one whole month before advising parents by email on that late Friday evening.
The decision was detailed in the school accounts signed a month earlier.
Had this time been used correctly a buyer would have been found and the schools future secured within 3 months of that decision.

Here is the evidence that the closure was decided well before they announced it.

Here is the evidence from the accounts they submitted

“Woodard Schools within the area have also reached out to parents and Abbots Bromley have liaised with schools who have approached them to provide as much information on the curriculum they have followed as possible.”
This one would be funny if it wasn’t as serious, let’s break it down a little Woodard state that schools have reached out to parents, how do they propose this was done, did Woodard provide the parental contact details outside of Abbots Bromley school in breach of GDPR regulations?
If so why and how?
If they did not well how did schools reach out to parents?
Having spoken with over a hundred parents they confirm that they have had no support whatsoever from Woodard.

The spokesman said parents were told of the closure in mid-March, meetings with them were held within days, governors spent “several hours” taking questions from parents and a parent consultation group had been set up.
The original closure notice was in fact detailed in the published accounts which were published in February, therefore an entire 30 days before they informed parents.
They make reference to a parent consultation group, this would be PLAN B which is now the only active parent group and our role is to seek alternative buyers for the school.
There is no parent group set up to arrange and discuss provision to other schools that have been published or publicised anywhere nor are any parents aware of this.
